In most cases, the landlord doesn't want your belonging even if they are legally his. You may have a few things he may be able to sell, but now he has to get rid of all the stuff he can't. He'd probably prefer you take your belongings and go. So write a letter or try to call him and tell him you can pick up your stuff and have it moved out ASAP even if he insists you be supervised. If he refuses out of spite, keep trying, but be polite and do not get into a war of words.
