How Can I Make A Butter Churn?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A traditional butter churn is made up of a container that is fitted with wooden blades such that the rotation of a crank would whirl the cream poured inside until it became butter. In today's times you can use a food processor, an electric mixer that is fitted with a whisk attachment, or a blender instead of a butter churn. These can be equally effective.

Another easy method to make your own butter churn would be to use a jar to a strong plastic bag and clean some marbles. This takes longer but you can even get your children involved.

While the old-fashioned churns were made out of wood, these days you can find them made from pottery, stone, metal, or glass. Earlier, after the buttermilk was strained to remove the particles of butter it would then be put in wooden molds in order to create a finished shape.
