What Is Writer's Block?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Writer's block is when a writer lacks the inspiration to carry on their novel. A writer may be in the process of writing a novel and suddenly come to a point where they are stuck for what to write next.

Writer's block is also caused by other problems such as depression, which may cause the writer to stop writing for very long periods or maybe even abandon the novel altogether.

Writer's block can last years or decades, depending on what problems the writer has. As well as depression, a writer may discontinue their novel as a result of rejections from literary agents or publishers, because they may feel that their writing is not good enough. This is not true, of course, as agents and publishers have varied opinions, meaning that although the writer's book has been turned down once, it doesn't mean that it is completely unpublishable.

Busy lifestyles may cause writers to suffer writer's block. If a writer has children to look after, then they may find themselves distracted and unable to find the time to write, therefore making it harder to get into their story when they go back to it.
