Peter, a disciple and follower of Jesus, continued as one of the primary leaders of the growing Christian church. He was among those executed by the Roman government for his Christian beliefs. He was scheduled for cruicifixion as Jesus was, but felt unworthy to die in the same way so he asked that he be cruicified upside down. The Catholic church, inspite of its leading role in the Crusades of killing and stealing, chose Peter as their first leader, later the office called Pope, while no other Christians accepted that.
