Answer Question

Alcohol thermometer was invented by Jams Six in 1782 which helps in measuring the maximum and the minimum temperature. He was a British born scientist from Canterbury and had a keen interest in natural philosophy and meteorology. He invented this thermometer which consists of a glass capillary tube which is marked with degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit and contains alcohol which rises or falls as the temperature changes.

It consists of a U-shaped capillary tube separated by two temperature readings, one for the maximum temperature and the other for minimum temperature. Bulbs are present at the top of each arm of the U-shaped tube. The bulb present on top of the minimum reading scale contains alcohol, whereas the other has a vacuum or alcohol vapor. The alcohol acts as the thermometric liquid and the mercury serves as an indicator.
