This Question Is Answered:
My Sussex hen has been on eggs for 17 days now, went on holiday for a week came back on sat and she has pale wattles, she's eating, drinking & pooing, read this could be mites, what should I do?
I've had my chickens for 1 and a half years, all healthy and well, my 1st broody hen has developed pale pink wattles and I'm worried as I read this could be mites although the hen house is cleaned weekly, they have a pen and are also let to roam the back garden quite often. Should I move her to have a good clean, not sure thats good due to closeness of hatching! Thanks Dyan

Red Mite is quite easy to get rid of. You can get a red mite powder from any good feed supplier, or even some pet shops have it. These are tiny red mites that you cannot really see, best to look it the dark because this is when they come out, when the chickens roost. If you get the powder, just dust the perks in the day while the chickens are out and this should wipe them out.

We also put creasote on the end of the perks every now and again, which is supposed to suppress the red mite.

It does not mean that they are not clean - it is nearly impossible to not get them at some time. The powder should not harm the broody hen, not good to move her at the moment. Just read the instructions on the packaging first.
