Is It Possible For Men To Develop Breast Cancer?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It is entirely possible for men to develop breast cancer, though it is never as publicised, or as common as breast cancer in women. Men still have small amounts of tissue in their breasts, and cancerous cells can infect that tissue, just as they can in women. It is thought that 250 men develop breast cancer in the UK each year and approximately the chances of men developing the disease over women are one in one hundred.

The exact reason why breast cancer does affect men is unknown. However, it does seem to mainly target men over the age of sixty. It is thought that your chances of developing the disease are higher if you have close relatives who have had breast cancer. Does it run in the family? Whilst it is extremely rare, it is possible for some men who have been exposed to high levels of radiation, to develop breast cancer.

So, breast cancer is not just something which affects women – it can definitely affect men too. Even though it is less common, it does still happen so do not be afraid to get yourself checked out if you think you may have the disease.
