What Is The Workshop On The Basics Of Fermentation About?

The Society for Industrial Microbiology is scheduled to conduct a series of three workshops in the city of Denver, Colorado on Sunday, July 29, 2007.  The first of the three workshops deals with the basics of fermentation.

It is a dry workshop on the process of fermentation that will last for one day. It will include the demonstration of the equipment used in a laboratory so that the attendees are familiar with the fermentor and its various parts.

Apart from discussing the important aspects of each part of the fermentor, there will be lectures on the operational issues of the process of fermentation and discussions about the aspect ratios, agitators, spargers, ports, the process of sterilisation, etc. The workshop will conclude with a discussion about the various issues involved in the scale-up to production size fermentors.
