Over the ages, the status of women in society has always been secondary to that of men. This is actually surprising, considering that historical evidence shows that during the prehistoric times, it was the woman who was the leader in the house. However, the situation changed once the concept of settled living, i.e. Civilization came into existence. Settled living called for performing a number of tasks that required strength, which the men had more than the women. Physical labour was the requirement, and the men were more adept at it than the women. The women began to look after the home, and the pattern was set. As men performed more tasks, and moved about more than the women, the shift in status gradually happened, and over a period of time men became the dominant force in the society.    This is the rule of thumb in quite a few parts of the world. Though women nowadays are fighting for their rights and for equal treatment with men, it is still not seen in many parts of the world, especially Asian and African countries. However, there have been huge strides made in this direction ever since women began to demand their equality.

A woman has an important place in human society and she has to play significant role in human progress and prosperity. As it is assumed by certain narrow minded people, woman can in no inferior to man. She is his counterpart and is equally important and equally capable of sharing the responsibilities of life.

Her main function is procreation for which she makes every sacrifice. Then she nourishes the child and brings it up; the process is very important because the entire life depends upon and is associated with the way she brings up a child.

There are conservative people who are of opinion that women should not be educated. This view point is retrogressive and hence unacceptable in the modern scientific age. Women must be educated and trained to share the responsibilities of their society.
The enlightened women can understand the nature of their function and perform their duties to the best efforts.

Now day's women are working in every field of life. They are also serving the nation in the same way like the man. Women is flying the airplanes, she is a doctor, an engineer and more than a mother. She is not behind in any case than a man.

The status of women in society by and large is still defined by men. While we are not burned at the stake physically, women are a long way from "the equal status" partner in society.

True we are moving ahead, getting acknowledged and appreciated in our contributions be it to society, sciences, business or any other field but the progress is either too concentrated or too small in number to actually make an impact. The larger portions of women across the world are still forced to comply with old and unfair rules and regulations, some of which were ironically laid down for her protection!

A woman plays many roles in a single lifetime with so much dedication and devotion that in an ideal world her status should be at par. But honestly I am miffed and outraged at times by all this talk about equality and representation for women in society, considering it takes a man and a woman in equal parts to create normal living conditions both within and outside a family.

Women has alwayz been treated in a vry bad manner mainly in olden dayz.. They r given a vry low position in the society as they could not participate in any acitvitiez in the society... Sati, pardah system, child marraige & such activitiez degraded the women & nvr gav them a chance 2 involve with the society..
Most women were confined 2 their homez.. & also girl children were married off at a vry young age were they wud b made 2 work as a wife.. 1 major factor which differentiated them from the men was education.. Femalez as such were not given education & some castez evn blame educatin the girlz as a sin..
Nwadayz women hav grown a lot from wot position they had.. They nw demand their respect & equal place & share in the society.. But it has not come 2 the xtent tat ladiez & young girlz can walk freely at night..
Tat shud b done.. & more respect shud b given 2 women..

They are almost equal to me, except there is still wage discrimination, meaning men are paid more than women, even if they have the same job.
