John Peel the legendary British disc jockey who achieved immense popularity with his unique broadcasting style and his choice of music was first introduced to the world of radio broadcasting when he visited the United States in 1960 in relation to his father's business who was a cotton merchant; Peel's first experience was an unpaid job working for WRR radio in Dallas.
Peel did several jobs in the US working for different radio stations like KLIF and KMEN with assignments included presenting a breakfast show as well as covering the Beetles a job for which he was selected owing to his upbringing in Burton near Liverpool. After returning to England in 1967 Peel worked for Radio London presenting a program known as The Perfumed Garden; the program quickly became popular and paved Peel's path for future successes with the BBC after Radio London closed later that year.
Peel's very first assignment with the BBC was with Radio 1 then a newly conceptualized pop music station where Peel played a major part in popularizing the new genres coming to the fore in the music world like reggae, hip hop and punk.
