What Is An Abscess?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

An abscess can be defined as a bounded collection of pus that is primarily developed by the infection caused by micro-organisms. Abscesses may occur at any given area of the body. It may have various shapes and forms because of their fluid content. Abscesses may cause pain because of the internal pressure causing firmness and disarticulation of surrounding tissues.

An abscess may act as the part of body's natural defence mechanism as it enables the localization of the spreading of bacteria by the virtue of preventing infection.

Abscesses may be developed as a result of injury, bacterial or amoebic infection, intravenous injection or surgery. The occurrence of abscesses gets accelerated if the urinary, respiratory or immune systems have developed impaired functionalities. The body's inflammatory response mechanism reacts to the injury by altering the presence of leukocytes; hence the body's immune system gets altered. This eventually leads the affected area to not being able to get healed properly and thus abscess occurs.
