What Does Lisp Means?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The word lisp has its origin in Old English and is taken from the word '-wlyspian'. '-Wlyspian' is obtained from the word āwlyspian which means to lisp. Later, '-wlyspian' was adapted by the Middle English as 'lispen'. Lispen means to lisp. Lisp could be used as a verb and also as a noun. As a noun, lisp indicates a speech defect or fault. The sounds's' and 'z' are pronounced as 'th'. For example: he spoke with a lisp. The habit of lisping is also termed lisp. Lisp is an act or sound of lisping.

As a verb, lisp means 'to speak with a lisp'. Lisp could also mean 'to speak imperfectly'. The verb could be used as lisped, lisping, and lisps which are the past tense, continuous tense and the present tense of the verb lisp. As a noun, lisp could also mean a high-level computer programming language used for research related to artificial intelligence.
