What Is The Television Show The Shield About?

The Shield is a police-crime drama starring Michael Chiklis about a police station in the drug and violence-infused area of Farmington in Southern Los Angeles.

Most of the show revolves around a small group of characters.
These are Detective Vic Mackey and his special strike force team, a group of men who are as corrupt as they are honourable.  There are also two other Detectives and station Captain who usually play the largest roles.  (More recently, the role of Mackey's wife has taken a great part, maybe because she's the creator's wife, I don't know.)

The show is now in its Sixth Season (the network has demanded the end sadly) and has included some amazing acting talent from Clark Greig and Rebecca Pigeon to Forest Whitaker and Glenn Close.  It is multi-award winning and broke the mould for police dramas.

It took a while to get into it, but I've got four boxed sets and I'm not stopping now.

The Shield, the most cynical and uncompromising cop drama, is the story of an inner
city Los Angeles police precinct. Series actually breaks down the
conventional formulas of cop genre. It opens a new morally ambiguous
world of crime where limits between good and bad are being crossed
every day.
'The Shield' stars Michael Chiklis as
rogue cop “Detective Vic Mackey”. He's the leader of the elite Strike
Team Unit who likes to operate under his own rules but effectively
eliminates the criminals.

Benito Martinez is playing Captain
David Aceveda; he's the young head who doesn't like Mackey's rules and
regulations and really wants to get him out of the force. Detective
Claudette Wyms is played by CCH Pounder who's a veteran detective.
Claudette clearly understands what Mackey is doing and what he stands
for but he also knows how to play both sides of the fence.In 2003, series won the Golden Globe Award for the Best Drama Series
and made a history by becoming the first ad supported cable TV series.
During the first season, Shawn Ryan and Clark Johnson received Emmy
nominations. 'The Shield' also won two TCA nominations and is one of
the longest running TV series. 'The Shield' debuted on March 12, 2002
and has successfully completed 6 seasons.
