Where Is The Bolshoi Theatre?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Bolshoi Theatre is positioned in Moscow, Russia.

It is one of the largest and most famous theatre and opera companies in Russia. The company was established in 1776 by Prince Peter Urussov and Michael Maddox. The Bolshoi Theatre Company gets its name from the word Bolshoi, which is the Russian word for large.
Until 1780, the Bolshoi Theatre Company acquired the Petrovka Theatre and began to stage productions like plays and operas. Apart from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, which is the longest-running ballet in the world (it has been running for the last 129 years, since it's maiden show in 1877), the theatre has also staged the premieres of two of the composer's other plays, Voyevoda and Mazeppa, and Aleko and Francesca da Rimini, composed by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). Aleko premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre Company on May 9, 1893, and Francesca da Rimini was staged at the Bolshoi Theatre for the first time in 1906.
