How Do They Process Dates?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Date palms are dioecious ~ male and female - in nature. Female bears the fruit, and male produces the pollen. Female trees must be pollinated to produce fruit. There are natural way, such as winding, not proven very effective, whereas there are methods called hand pollination and mechanical pollination where manually or using instruments pollination is done.

The ideal time of dates harvesting begins from September and continues till December. Summer is the time when farmers start to reap the fruits of their labour. A successful harvest depends very much on the climate.

The tree parts of date palms are basically used for food, shelter, clothing and fuel. Date pectine, dietary fibre and syrup are few of the date substances that can be used as a gelling agent for any processed food or confectionary food as well, jam, jelly, soft cheese, yogurt, etc., as for example.
