Transmission Slipping, What Is Wrong?

My 1995 Mercedes slips in reverse ONLY-- all forward gears are fine. This started yesterday suddenly-- it was 110 here in Az.

Start the engine, pull the dipstick, wipe it off and check your fluid level.
If the fluid level is full, then the reverse gear clutches are probably worn out.

Most everything, like, shift timing & shift quality on a Mercedes transmission, is controlled by the vacuum modulator, but reverse gear is controlled by hydroulic pressure to the reverse clutches.
If it does not engage, it is probably because the clutches are worn out.
This, (and I'm sorry to tell you), would require an overhaul.
