Should Diabetics Take More Exercise?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Exercising coupled with a balanced diet and regular monitoring of blood sugar helps in controlling and managing diabetes effectively to the extent that one can live life completely to the fullest extent without making any compromises.

Exercise helps in reducing the level of blood sugar; for best results it should be a combination of aerobic exercises like walking briskly, jogging, cycling and swimming and if one is comfortable with it strenuous exercise like moderate weight lifting; one should not sit in one place for long periods of time.

However before commencing any exercise regime one would do well to consult one's physician as well as an experienced physical trainer; one should always take care to stay well hydrated by drinking sufficient amount of water.

Exercising for at least 30 minutes daily and a balanced diet one comprising vegetables especially leafy greens and salads and certain fruits like papaya, and milk and dairy products like yogurt have been observed to have a beneficial effect on the body; it has been seen that in case of Type 2 diabetes, insulin secretion by the pancreas has improved while the overall receptivity of the body to insulin has improved considerably.
