After Exposure To An Upper Respiratory Infection, How Long Before Symptoms Begin?

    Upper respiratory tract infection is acute infection of upper respiratory tract like pharynx, larynx, nose and sinuses. Acute respiratory tract infection can cause   common cold , pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis and bronchitis.
    Signs & Symptoms are Sore throat, cough, runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion and fever. These symptoms can appear after 1-3 days of microbial pathogen attack. Viral upper respiratory tract infection can persists for 7-10 days. These viruses also cause middle ear infection and redness of the eye during URTI.
    Pharyngitis is also caused by bacteria called Streptococcal pharyngitis. This infection does not cause sneezing, runny nose and cough.
    For bacterial URTI, use of antibiotics is helpful. For viral URTI, no treatment is recommended except aspirin, paracetamol or ibuprofen to treat fever. Increase in water intake is also recommended.
