Where Are The Huguenots Settled In England?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Huguenots when fled from France were settled in various parts of the world and in England they settled mostly in Canterbury and some other areas of Kent like Tenterden.

When they landed on the coast of Kent they moved towards Canterbury and Edward VI gave them the crypt of the Canterbury Cathedral for their worship. Though this privilege later shrank, you can still found a Huguenot chapel in the area.

The Huguenot refugees flocked to some other places also like Shoreditch in London. They established a big weaving industry in Spitalfields and in Wandsworth. They also established the Old Truman brewery in the year 1724, which in those days was called Black Eagle Brewery.

The consequence of fleeing of Haguenots was very bad on France and all the silk mills they built were wiped out over there.
