How Many Call Centres Are Located In India?

Research indicates that almost 90% of call centres are actually located within the UK, with Scotland, Northern Ireland and Newcastle upon Tyne, being popular locations for UK call centres. Some companies have established call centres in India, only to return to the UK (such as Powergen the energy company and Nat West bank).

However, there is still a widespread belief that almost all call centres are located in India, as opposed to being UK based. Partly this is due to media interest. When a company takes the decision to re-locate a call centre in India, or to amalgamate its service through a call centre in India, then there are inevitable job losses, sometimes 400-500 at one fell swoop, which obviously has an impact on a local economy.

This issue then features in news bulletins and newspapers, which lead people to think that most call centres are based in India.
