Hello! I am a teenager who knows basically everything about dwarf hamsters and other hamsters. Ok, this is what you do ..(so glad u asked me! Great question) ....first, clean out both cages, and put your hamsters in two different cages for about a week. Then, switch the hamsters so that the female is in the males cage and vice versa. The scent of each other will get them used to each other so that there will be less fighting and more mating! If this does not work , repeat the process. Dont get discouraged if it doesnt work! Just so you know, there will be some fighting no matter what, just make sure they arent fighting non-stop. Also, it helps if the female is is season. (this occurs every three or four days) a white substance may come from their backside as a sign. But, be sure that the are of age, and that you arent breeding an old female with a young male. (you can introduce a younger female to and older male though) This same thing happened to my hamsters a few times, but i assure you it does work.......
If you do not know the age of your female hamster, try stroking your finger down her back; and if she freezes and her tail sticks up, you know that she is ready to breed. If you try to breed a female when she is too young, there is a likely chance she will abandone or eat her babies. And if the female is too old, the pregnancy will not be good or healthy, for the mom and the babies. And when this happens (when the female becomes pregnant) leave the male in the cage. He can help keep the babies warm and bring them back to their mother for feeding. But then again it all depends on the hamster!
Thank you so much, i loved helping!
