Cancer can be defined as a malignant growth or tumour resulting from uncontrolled and abnormal cell division. Each type of cancer causes different symptoms. The symptoms of cancer depends to a great deal on the type of cancer, the part of the body affected, the stage of cancer and the level to which it has affected other organs of the body.
The symptoms associated with cancer experienced by patients in general include persistent fatigue that is more pronounced as cancer spreads, considerable weight loss due to no other reasons, persistent fever, changes to the texture of the skin, and persistent pain.
There are very specific symptoms associated with specific type of cancer such as pronounced changes in bowel habits and bladder function in colon cancer, persistent sores that do not heal in skin cancer, indigestion or trouble in swallowing in cancer of pharynx, stomach or oesophagus, lump in the breast in breast cancer, and nagging cough in lung cancer.
