Where Are Some Sacred Places To The Hindus?

    The Sacred places of the Hindus are called tirthas. The act of going on a pilgrmage is tirtha-yatra. Some of the sacred places are lakes, mountains, forests and caves, considered to be places where heaven and earth meet.

    Some of the sacred rivers are the Ganga, Yamuna, Sarasati, Godavari, Sariyu, and Payasivini. The Himalayas are an abode of the gods. Other sacred mountains are Cindhyachai, Mohindragiri, Revtak Parvat, and the Aravil range in Rajasthan among others.

    Seven Holy Places, (Sapt Puris) are Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwa, Kashi, Dwarika, Ujjain and Kanchi or Kanchipuram, which is called the Golden City.

    The Five Sarovars are sacred pools or tanks, are Bindu sarovar, Narayan ssarovar, Mansarovar, Pushkar sarovar and Pampa sarovar.

    Some of the sacred pilgrimage centres are Kedaranath, Visveswar or Amreswar, Baidynath, Sri Omkareswar, Somnath, Nageswar and Bhim Samkara.

    Hindus make pilgrimages to sacred temples and shrines throughout all of India.
