In What Year Did Aston Villa First Win A Major Honour?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Birmingham side Aston Villa, first won a major club honour way back in the nineteenth centuary when they won the FA cup in eighteen eighty seven.

In fact Aston Villa were one of the first teams to dominate English club football, winning the league five times in the eighteen nineties, and the FA cup twice in the same period.

Although Aston Villa have won the league championship seven times, six of these victories came before the first world war, with Villa only winning the first division championship once in modern times, in the nineteen eighty, eighty one season.

Arguably Villa's greatest achievement came the following season when the team won the European cup (now champions league) in the eighty one, eighty two season.

Despite being one of the oldest teams in the league, Villa have struggled in recent years, with the team nearer the bottom of the Premiership than the top.
