    Oxygen elemental symbol O has electron configuration (arrangement) Is2 2s2 2p4 and is in Group VIA and therefore has oxidation no. 2- (meaning Oxygen can gain 2 electrons in Oxygens valence shell)
    this means that Oxygen has six electron's in the Valence shell.
