My AST Liver Enzymes Are 471. Is This Very High And What Could Be The Cause?
I'm 39 years old and am in good health. For 13 years off and on i have been on anti depressants. I have just started lamotrigine about 2 1/2 months ago at 50ml and I'm on wellbutrin 300ml. They want to do an ultra sound for gall stones. What could be the cause. If it's meds is it permanent?

AST or Aspartate aminotransferase is an liver enzyme. Its normal levels are 10 to 34 IU/L. An increase in AST levels can be due hepatitis, acute hemolytic anemia, Deep burn, heart attack, recent surgery, acute pancreatitis, multiple trauma, acute renal failure, liver necrosis, liver cancer, liver cirrhosis, muscle disease, Infectious mononucleosis, Skeletal muscle trauma, Progressive muscular dystrophy, and Recent convulsion. Measuring alone AST levels can not help to diagnose liver problem. Usually ALT/AST ratio is measured. Your high levels of AST can be due to recent convulsions because you are taking Lamotrigine which is used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder. You can also discuss this with your doctor.
