What Is The Accent Like In Hull?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The accent in Hull is more like the Yorkshire accents. The Yorkshire accent is generally the English spoken in the Northern English County. It is also referred to as Tyke. In this language the pronunciations are a bit different. The language is pronounced with a short 'a', e.g. 'dahn' instead of down and 'sath' instead of south, and also a double 'tt', e.g. instead of get, they pronounce it as gett. Even an 'ake' is prominently pronounced with /ɛ/, eg 'tek', 'mek' instead of, 'take and 'make'.

This accent is mostly considered non rhotic. They pronounce 'r' only if it is followed by a vowel. Mostly American English speakers have this accent. This language is also written with a lot of article reduction, e.g. instead of 'the' it is simply t`.
