Which Areas Have Flint?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Flint occurs naturally in many parts of China, Western Asia, North Africa and Europe. In Europe, flint can be located in the Flint mines of Belgium, the English channel, Paris Basin, in England in Grimes Graves. It can be found in limestone deposits throughout Europe and North America. It is found in areas with chalk bedrock because it was formed in areas that later became chalk.

Closer to home in the U.K. Grime' Graves in Norfolk County has flint mines that appear to be countless. 433 shafts still exist today. They date back from 3000 B.C to the Bronze Age. Other Neolithic flint mines are found at Cissbury, Blackpatch and Harrow Hill in Sussex and Great Langdale in Cumbria. The reasons for mining for flint seem to be a question of quality.
