How High Are The Numbers To Be On A Bilirubin To Be Taken Off The Blue Light For Jaundice?

My great grand-daughter was born jaundice. She is 6 days old & sent home with a bili band, a blue light she lays on. Her blood count numbers were between 11 & 12 on the bilirubin test. The dr is keeping her on the blue light. I was told this isn't neccessary the liver kicks in after 4 days old & takes care of it. Does this mean the liver isn't strong enough to take care of it?

Jaundice in new born babies is called physiological jaundice. There is no treatment of this. The liver of newborn does not start its function immediately. Usually it take 4-6 days. When it starts its function jaundice is treated automatically. Take your grand daughter in sun light (First rays of sunlight) in the morning for 20 minutes for 4-5 days. The normal value of bilirubin is below 1.
