What Is The Best Way To Prepare For A Civil Services Exam ?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are two basic Civil Service Exams.  One is the "fast-track" exam, which is mostly for people who already have University degrees and some work experience.  The other basic entry test is more basic and aimed more at school-leavers. There are other, more advanced exams for specialist areas.

The basic tests are out to measure fundamental skills: Literacy and numeracy, as well as personality characteristics.  The tests are meant to be demanding and you do not have to answer all questions (much less answer them all correctly) to get a pass.  Because some of the questions are psychometric -- to find out things your unique personality -- so there is no absolutely right answer, anyway.

    The questions are multiple-choice format.

How to Pass the Civil Service Qualifying Tests gets fairly good reviews and will give you a good idea of what to expect and how to do well at the exams. The Amazon link also mentions some other books you could buy to maximise your chances of doing well.
