The Union was founded by a woman called Francis Power Cobbe. She worked tirelessly for an end to vivisection but she also cared deeply for people. She worked towards the rights of children and women in Victorian society and are those people who had to enter the workhouses. She cared for those who had no voice in a society still dominated by male politicans and the 'upper classes'.
Today the BUAV works to end all vivisection and to promote alternatives whilst totally comdeming any form of violence. They are 'unequivocally opposed to violence' towards all animals and people.
BUAV works towards promoting education, peaceful political lobbying and underlines that it cares for humanity too.
Stores such as the Co-op actively support the organisation and many of their brands carry the seal of approval for cruelty free products.
