How Does A Bean Grow?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The common bean is a herbaceous plant which grows throughout the year and was cultivated on an independent scale in the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica and the Andes, now cultivated throughout the world fro its consumable bean. In botanical terms, the common bean is categorized as being dicotyledonous. It is one of the three sisters which supplied the base for Native American agriculture, the other two being maize and squash.

A bean grows by the natural process of germination, which is the process used by most plants to grow from a seed.

Beans can be cooked in a variety of ways; however they are generally boiled for around ten minutes before cooking, in order to break down a toxic compound called as lectin phytohaemagglutinin.
