What Is Black Literature?

    Black literature, or as it is referred to by its politically correct term, African American literature, is the area of literature which is generated in the United States of America by Authors who have an African ancestry. In simple words, it consists of the literature produced by the black population in the country. The beginning of this specific genre of literature can be traced back to work done by Phillis Wheatley and his black counterparts towards the end of the eighteenth century. The torch of the genre is today carried by writers such as Toni Morrison and Walter Mosley, who are today regarded as the finest authors in the USA.

    Black Literature revolves around a variety of diverse themes that reflect the black culture in America, such as racism, slavery etc.
