    Karl Baedeker was a very highly respected German publisher. He was born on November 3, 1801 in Essen, Germany. He passed away on October 4, 1859 from complications from a heart related condition.
    He is best known for his tourist guide book publications.  He began his own publishing business in 1827 and wrote and published many different tourist guides for travelers. He enjoyed writing about far away places. His guidebooks contained a lot of historic information about various places from around the world. Not only were the guides useful for travelers, they were also very educational in nature.

    The Baedeker's guides are specifically marked with a red binding and gilt lettering. These styles became a hallmark for the Baedeker's guides. The guides were very detailed and very accurate. He was very well-known for his work. There was a lot of care, time, and effort put into each guide.
