The names of the planets in our Solar System come from ancient Roman Mythology. For example Mars was the god of war in the ancient Greek Mythology. Venus was the Roman goddess of love, fertility and beauty in ancient Roman mythology and was considered an equivalent of Aphrodite from the Greek mythology. Mercury again, was the messenger of gods in Roman mythology and had dominion over trade and commerce. Jupiter was the King of all gods and was the god of sky and thunder. Saturn was the Roman God of agriculture and harvest. Uranus was the ancient Greek deity of sky and father of Chronos and likewise Neptune was the god of oceans.
