How Do I Create An Attractive Resume And Cover Letter?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A resume or curriculum vitae should be no more than two pages of A4, printed on good-quality paper in an interesting but clear font.
It should start with your name and contact details displayed in the top centre of the page. You should always include a mobile phone number and email address. If you have a website, then this can also be added.

Next you should write a short description of the job or position that you are seeking.

This should be followed by a list of your work experience, starting with your most recent or current position. State the job role, the company worked for and the dates worked for, followed by key skills and responsibilities in the role.

Following your work experience, mention your education details, including exam results and academic or extra-curricular achievements.

At the end of your CV it is a good idea to list contact details for a referee.

A cover letter should include a description of the type of job that you are interested in, followed by the reasons that you would be a good candidate for the role.

    Good luck with your job-hunting!

I like some of the things becca says, however I'm a Psychology Major so this approach seems a lot more logical!

First! What are you RELAY wanting? And you would reply a job, and I would say NO, your trying to get an INTERVIEW for a possible job!

For the Human Resources person will go through ALL the resumes and pull 2 to 5 For a ONE on ONE interview, and that is where you want to be, Cuz!

So what will get you there? For you resume needs to get you to that interview or it's wrong, and what will you say on that resume that might deplete your chances of getting to that interview?

This method is called The Bait and Hook Resume!

In this method you DO NOT want to provide TO MUCH info for then they will already know EVERYTHING they want so unless you are THE ONE, why interview you?

So you want to give them just enough info so they want to know more. So you put this after those questions that will be your strongest points, "More info provided in person."
OK! Put on this persons shoes for their job is far more than reading resumes, and so their time IS LIMITED! This is what part I liked most about becca's answer. So DO NOT take up their time in High or preschools. Your special or higher education and experiences is where you consume their time, BUT TOO MUCH info is not what you want! This is a fine line sometimes too.

YOU WANT them to interview you so you can then interject your personalty!

DO NOT get into great details on things you could be considered boasting about! Keep it brief but informative.

Do not squeeze things together, but be to the point!
      Good Luck!
