How Do You Correct Credit Report?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Credit Reports are based on the credit history of a person. It is based on the capacity to borrow, the amount borrowed, the type of borrowing and the repayment history. If by correction one is referring to bringing ones credit report back to good standing, then a number of credit related steps will have to be taken. Make all your payments in time and try and pay back your credit card debts. Do not cancel your credit cards at one go as if your borrowing capacity falls so will your rating. Instead just don't use them. Do not delay your payments and avoid irresponsible spending. Sometimes a credit history is not available and for this reason ones score is low. This is true for younger people with no borrowing. In this case using a credit facility of some sort like a car loan or a credit card loan and paying that off promptly can help improve your score.

Incase there has been an error in your credit report you will need to send a letter to both your creditor and the credit reporting agency. The address of your credit reporting agency will be printed somewhere on the back of your credit report. You will also have to enclose a copy of your credit report with the relevant mistakes highlighted. Send a copy of some identification as well.
