The Sequel of Eragon in books has been published on August 23, 2007. However, there is no news as to when will the movie be released. Actually the production work has not started as yet.

I hope it doesn't because they did a horrible job with the first movie

I don't think they will be making a sequel. The production of Eragon was really expensive (something around $100 million  I think). So it was as expensive as a LOTR movie but it wasn't as successful. So if they can produce it for less money there maybe will be a sequel. It would really be a shame if they don't because the second book was much better than the first.

If you read the books they have many problems to overcome between the first and second books. Try going to the wiki and reading a little about it. It goes into great detail. Also...it has been a while now since Eragon was released. The producers/20th Century Fox may believe it has been too long for a not so successful movie. I personally loved it but I'm not holding my breath.

I thought the first movie was good for being of the same genre as LOTR and even Chronicles of Narnia. I think they should most definitely make the sequel. And for all the people that are saying that books are better, you try making a movie based from a book and making it exactly like the book. GOOD LUCK!! Anyways movies are a lot more enjoyable! Anyways they should really consider making the sequel "eldest" i for one will be in line to see it!!

My kids love it.  I personally thought it was a good film for what it was..... Entertaining!  I'm really not interested if it followed the books or not.... Who cares..... Did it keep me entertained for an hour and a half?  Yes!  Roll on the next film!!

I also think it was an enjoyable film. Was it derivative? Sure it was! Was it a Star Wars rip off set to "middle earth"? You bet! But tell me how many films being released today are "truly original"? Not many I reckon. I know this is not a lame excuse for a movie that flopped, but Eragon was nicely done, has a fast pace and the acting is tolerable. If anything, I think John Malcovich's acting sucked here and he is a film veteran! Jeremy Irons was impeccable as Brom and the rest of the cast did ok. The FX are obviously the movie's best asset.
So many sequels have been made of truly horrendous films that it's ironic to see that a much better movie such as Eragon can't have one.

It left an ending for a sequel, but many people who read the book hated the movie because it was so different and left out huge chunks. Those who didn't read the book got confused and lost, so it really wasn't a success, and they decided not to waste any money on Eldest.

I though Eragon was pretty ok. My kids loved it and the acting was acceptable. It was left open for a sequel to which I would go and see with my kids. Bring it on..

I've seen several posters online for a sequel, but never anything about a release date. I have read the books and found that Eragon was a horrible adaptation, but as a movie i think it did an okay job of summing up the books, and was semi climatic in the end. I feel a sequel is the best way to save the franchise.
