It seems unlikely that the sequel to Eragon will ever be made into a movie, particularly as Eragon was released in 2006 and there is still no word that the sequel is being produced. Eragon was released worldwide between December 13 and December 15, 2006 by 20th Century Fox. It was the 10th worst reviewed film of 2006 on Rotten Tomatoes, and the 31st highest grossing film of 2006 in the US.

The sequel to Eragon is Eldest which was first published in hardcover on August 23, 2005, and was released in paperback in September 2006.
Eldest begins following several important events in Eragon. The story is the continued adventures of Eragon and his dragon Saphira, centering around their journey to the realm of the Elves in order to further Eragon's training as a Dragon Rider. Other plots in the story focus on Roran, Eragon's cousin, who leads the inhabitants of Carvahall to Surda to join the Varden, and Nasuada as she takes on her father's role as leader of the Varden. Eldest ends at the Battle of the Burning Plains, where Eragon faces a new Dragon Rider, Murtagh and a new dragon, Thorn. Whether or not the book will be adapted to film remains a matter of speculation. When asked whether there would be a movie adaptation of Eldest at the premiere of Eragon, Christopher Paolini replied, "I think we'll know after opening weekend.”
Since the opening weekend passed, Paolini has not commented. Many critics have considered the possibility of a sequel in their reviews of Eragon. One critic said that 20th Century Fox's plans to adapt Eldest was "jumping the gun" and that "they will have a tough time convincing anyone but the most die-hard fans to return for another helping." Even some critics who gave the film positive reviews were sceptical towards the possibility of a sequel.

I thought the first movie was good for being of the same genre as LOTR and even Chronicles of Narnia. I think they should most definitely make the sequel. And for all the people that are saying that books are better, you try making a movie based from a book and making it exactly like the book. GOOD LUCK!! Anyways movies are a lot more enjoyable! Anyways they should really consider making the sequel "eldest" I for one will be in line to see it!!

I wasn't happy with what they missed in the first movie, so I wasn't blown away by it, by any means.. HOWEVER, I did enjoy the movie.. They did a much better job adapting this book to the movie than they did adapting the sword of truth series to television. ( Terrible job of it.. But that's another story ). Anywho, I think that they should still make the Eldest movie. I believe after the feedback that the readers have given, they should be able to do a much more impressive job on the storyline than they did in the first. As far as the special affects are concerned in the first, I'd have to say they were really neat. Anywho.. Just my opinion about it all.

Their best bet is to remake Eragon before they do a sequel. The movie was terrible in all sense. The acting, storyline, everything. There were so many mistakes when that movie was made. They skipped so many important parts of the story that made Eragon a blunder than a blockbuster hit.
Like I said in the beginning, start from scratch and do it all over again, and do it RIGHT.

I don't think they will be making a sequel. The production of Eragon was really expensive (something around $100 million I think). So it was as expensive as a LOTR movie but it wasn't as successful. So if they can produce it for less money there maybe will be a sequel. It would really be a shame if they don't because the second book was much better than the first.

I though Eragon was pretty ok. My kids loved it and the acting was acceptable. It was left open for a sequel to which I would go and see with my kids. Bring it on..

I didn't read the book yet but I thought the movie was ok and quite entertaining for a Dragon movie. They should really do a sequel and do it good so perhaps the first moive will get appreciated.

If you read the books they have many problems to overcome between the first and second books. Try going to the wiki and reading a little about it. It goes into great detail. Also...it has been a while now since Eragon was released. The producers/20th Century Fox may believe it has been too long for a not so successful movie. I personally loved it but I'm not holding my breath.

The movie is not going to be made, seeing the differences of the book and movie version of Eragon

It left an ending for a sequel, but many people who read the book hated the movie because it was so different and left out huge chunks. Those who didn't read the book got confused and lost, so it really wasn't a success, and they decided not to waste any money on Eldest.

I've seen several posters online for a sequel, but never anything about a release date. I have read the books and found that Eragon was a horrible adaptation, but as a movie I think it did an okay job of summing up the books, and was semi climatic in the end. I feel a sequel is the best way to save the franchise.

They cut a lot out of the movie that is vital to other parts of the story so they are going to have a lot of trouble making up for that, also the 1st one was an awful portrayal of the book because the first book was so extensive and its hard to cover all that in one film. Honestly I think that the producers know that they will not make a lot of money if they make a second movie, so I don't think it will happen

Last I heard it was considered to be straight to DVD but I rather see the first one redone. I enjoyed it of what it was but the graphic's weren't perfect and the acting was a little stale.
