I Moved In With A Roommate And I'm Not On The Lease. Now I Found My Own Place And She Wants To Hold My Belongings. I Have Paid The Entire Rent For Two Months. What To Do?
She lost her job and wants me to stay in the apartment to help her but the proximity to the apartment to my job is a problem and i found my own apartment. After she took my share of the rent she now has locked me out of the apartment and won't give me my things. I am not on the lease. I'm not even sure she paid the rent which mean a "lockout" could take place any day.
Contact the leasee and let them know what the deal is. See if they will contact the person who is now on the lease to confirm. The leasee can let you in the property to claim your good but there may be issues with your old roomy saying you took items that did not belong to you.
Better, you could contact the police and have them verify the issue and escort you in the property to claim your goods. Make sure to take an inventory of everything you take along with a verification from the officers that you only took items on the list. Then when your old roomy tries to say you took items that were not yours, you have the proof to back it up.
