Buying furniture can be a tricky business. You can look around for ages to find something you like and then find out that its way over your budget or won't fit through your front door! You may only be buying some furniture to use for a few months or that you'd be happy to leave behind when you move. Maybe you're just looking for some things to use in your student flat that doesn't cost a fortune.

Second hand furniture is a really cost effective way of buying and you can get some good things too.

Look in your local newspaper. It usually has a 'For Sale' section with a list of items that could be an option for you. If it sounds reasonable you can go and have a look at it. Remember you may have to hire a van to move some large pieces.

Try an online auction. You can take your time looking at different pieces, measure up and bid on ones you like. Remember to check postage or transport costs.

Finally try and find out if your area has a freeshare website. This is where people offer their goods for free or exchange. Normally you arrange transport.

I would check out your local 2nds places, like the Salvation Army or Good Will, places like that. I have found incredible finds, just remember, you usually have to take it with you the same day; also, check out estate sales and yard sales, or moving sales are the BEST. A friend of mine bought a BRAND new leather couch at an estate sale.

I suggest going to www.craigslist.org and then finding the nearest city to your home and looking under the various headings. Many post free stuff or bartering and then for sale. I have given away a lot of stuff at these sites.
