    Elite holds several meanings. The first meaning that mot people relate to are a faction or division of people or a part of such a division or class, who enjoy greater rational, social, or monetary status. The second meaning that refers to this very word is the most excellent or most trained affiliate of a group. And the last meaning that refers to it is a size of type on a typewriter, which is equivalent to 12 characters per linear inch.

    The word elite is derived from the Old French word eslite. It is also derived from the Latin word eligere, which means "to elect".
