What Is The Average Price Of A Filling?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The average price of a filling depends upon two factors. Firstly, it depends upon the type of filling that you want, and secondly, it depends upon how much the services of your dentist cost. A third factor for the patient might be whether the cost of your dental care is covered by a national health care plan, such as the National Health Service in the UK, or whether you are covered by private insurance.

There are two main types of filling: the traditional grey amalgam filling, and the more cosmetically appealing white filling. An amalgam filling costs about twenty pounds with an NHS dentist, and a white filling is about fifty pounds. The amalgam filling is subsidised, meaning that part of the cost is covered by the NHS, so its real cost will be greater than twenty pounds. However, for back teeth, you can't get white fillings on the NHS, so the fifty pounds will represent the full cost of the filling.

There are the traditional amalgam fillings that look like grey metal, and there are the more aesthetic white fillings that are a little more expensive.
