All Quiet on the Western Front is a novel written by the German writer Erich Maria Remarque. It is about the horrors of World War I. The story is narrated by a 19 year old soldier Paul Baumer, who, along with some of his friends joined Army upon motivation from their teacher Kantorek. Now they have to face the hard realities of war. He has to go through a lot. All of his soldier friends are killed in the way overtime. He can not adjust to his home environment when he goes on a leave to his home town. And when he goes back to the front he can not adjust there as well. At the end of the novel Paul realizes the horrors and hopelessness of war and is killed when he gives up during a battle.
