How Do I Break A Lease When There Has Been A Crime?

We have had our bike stolen off our front porch and we were told an officer would come and they never did! Then there was a drug deal in front of my porch and I called the police and notified the complex and again nothing has happened. I dont feel safe here, there have been other break ins, robberies, and drugs and the office isnt doing anything about it. We want to move but are afraid of breaking the lease and what we can legally do about it. If anyone can help please I dont know what to do! Thanks!

It depends what your lease says, but read it over and check to see if there is anything that says if you are feel unsafe to live there that you can move. Read it over carefully and if there isn't anything that you can see, consult a lawyer to find out what your rights are.I told my old landlord that my wife couldn't work because she was sick and I couldn't afford it anymore. Just a thought but do some investigating, I'm sure there's a loophole.

You can also try calling your local Fair Housing authority.
