Cities have a population of over 5000, a town 2500-4999, a village has under 2499 and therefore must have what is called a council of alderman. It is based mostly on population, not churches or other landmarks.

Most of these answers are wrong...We could sit here and list the different characteristics of cities, towns, and villages all day, but that doesn't tell anybody why they are officially called cities, towns, or villages. Whether a community is officially known as a town, village, or city all has to do with which of those three types (city, town, village) of local government the community adopts. It is not solely based on population, but the decision for which type of government is most appropriate for the community is unofficially based on population and which commercial industry (if any at all) would be best suited to fuel the local economy. Adoption of a new type of government can lead to drastic changes in the layout of the community, leading to the differences that are apparently seen. Take for example urban sprawl. The grid system of roads that develops after the adoption of city government is due to the government's increased control over the community and is an effort to fuel growth of white collar and mass-production industries while at the same time keeping the community organized and more easily manageable. A city government also has more responsibility when it comes to upkeep of the community. Bottom line: The difference is type of government.

Notice how the most major cities always border a body of water that's linked to the ocean. Just an example of how the type of government was adopted based partly on which industry (trading) would fuel local economy the most.

The difference is of population and civic amenities and services provided.
If a village has all basic civic amenities, than it is made town and if the town have other things and services like colleges, universities, industries, political offices, their market size, their business turnover and etc., than it is given the name of city.
If it proceeds and the population and services and centers or offices increases than it falls in big cities and than metros.

Many towns and villages today are nothing more than suburbs, however some do exist. By definition cities have larger populations than towns which are larger than vilages. Cities are 10,000 to 30,000 people or more. Villages typically have historic significance and are either "former villages" which may have been the founding area of a larger city of which it is now one part. Distinct villages today retain their status for marketing or identity purposes or even to avoid higher tax rates. Some have building/architecture restrictions more stringent than larger communities. The definition of a town varies widely but is about 1,000 up to 10,000 people.

Cites have huge difference of facilities and hospitalities  between villages an cities all of us may like to visit the villages for a week but it will not be possible  to live long in the villages as we may not survive over there for long as we are more use to the modern life style. There peoples face the problems like education
he  better than Villages because cites life is moderate and wall  educated while village life is adversity like education , in the city every body can  manage his rotten as well , but in village every body obeys  the feudalist order, such when he will getup when he will on duty whatever.

Moreover in city every think available in the nearest at home such School Hospital, health centers gems public transport whatever, but in village have a mini and Popular markets

Cities are much bigger than the villages. Cities are crowded and noisy but villages are silent. There is more population in cities but there are very less population in villages. In cities people are not friendly but in villages people are friendly to each other. Cities have so many modern technology but villages do their hard work to survive. Cities do not have so many monuments of ancient times but villages have so many monuments of ancient times. Cities do not have the green nature but villages have beautiful green nature. Cities do not have farms but villages have so many farms. Cities buys food from villages but villages makes food by the plants and trees. Cities do not have domestic animals but towns have so many domestic animals. The nature of villages is better more than the modern countries,
Posit City have big malls and supermarkets. But in village have a mini and popular markets.

Depending on the number of inhabitants, human settlements are usually classified as cities, towns or villages. Cities are generally larger and more densely populated than towns and have industrial, commercial and residential areas. Most cities also perform administrative functions. A town in smaller than a city but larger than village, it has smaller areas as a market, commercial and administrative hubs for the surrounding countryside and villages. Their population is generally smaller than the cities.

Location and history of a place also plays a part in it being designated as a City or a Town.
In densely populated countries like India and China, many towns are larger than the state and national capitals of many sparsely populated countries.Villages are small rural settlements largely dependent on agriculture, tourism or a specialized skill.

Fullon if you dont really know the answer just dont blurt out anything, Cities are incorporated, meaning they have a govt, mayor, city council, ect. It has nothing to do with population or anything else. Towns and villages have no govt. There is no legally defined difference between a village and a town, but generally a village is a small rural area lightly populated. A town would be more densly populated with stores and other services, but not defined.
