Why Did The Sex Pistols Split?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Sex Pistols were a first generation British punk rock band credited with popularizing the genre in the UK. The group was formed in London in 1976 and soon captured the imagination of their audience with their gigs along with influencing a whole generation of later musicians like The Clash, Buzzcocks, Nirvana and Oasis.

The group at the height of their popularity under took a tour of the US in 1978; the tensions of touring coupled with subsequent events led to the group being disbanded in the same year with the band members going their separate ways.

The group was beleaguered by the falling out between Johnny Rotten the group's lead vocalist and Malcolm McLaren the manager; also the group's drummer Sid Vicious was becoming unstable due to drug addiction. McLaren's reluctance to pay the group their royalties added to the situation and Rotten left the band in 1978 followed by the group being disbanded.
