The Great Barrier Reef is a natural formation found in the Coral Sea off the North Eastern coast of Australia; it is made of tiny creatures called as coral polyps. It is a system of reefs and islands that extends for a distance of 2600 km; the Great Barrier Reef is a world in itself and supports a wide range of marine flora and fauna.

Its natural beauty has made it one of the most popular tourist spots in the world with a number of resorts and hotels in the vicinity; a scuba diving trip to visit this enchanting place is a must for most tourists. Apart from the beautiful coral formations one can observe various marine creatures like turtles, clams, snails, starfishes and different species of fish like dolphin and clownfish among others. The Great Barrier Reef has in recent times been damaged due to pollution resulting from activities related to fishing and tourism.
