Utica was an ancient Phoenician settlement. It was a settlement of North Africa. Utica was situated on that place where the modern Tunisia is existed. It was accepted as the oldest Phoenician settlement in Africa. The territory of Utica was founded in the time of 8th century B.C. The area was grown rapidly after it was founded. It was second important area as per the settlement.
After the third Punic War of 149 B.C-149 B.C, it became more important. In that time it was made the capital of Roman province in Africa. The ancient Phoenician settlement of Utica was declined when the Carthage was rebuilt by the Roman emperor Augustus.
The excavations uncovered the ancient Phoenician settlement. The Phoenician graves gave us about its history from the time it had been founded. It also came to know after the excavations that it was an extensive residential division of the Roman city.
