What Products Are Formed When The Metal Potassium Is Added To Water?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    The reaction between potassium and water is an exothermic reaction. During this reaction, water and potassium react to form potassium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. Potassium reacts intensely with water to produce a colorless solution of potassium hydroxide. The balanced equation for the reaction is;

    2K (solid) + 2H2O (liquid) ----------> 2KOH (aqueous) + H2 (gas)

    Two moles of potassium metal react with two moles of water to yield two moles of potassium hydroxide in solution form and one mole of hydrogen gas.
