Brunel was the name of two engineers who were father and son. Both of them were famous and renowned people in their field of work. Sir Marc Isambard Brunel (the father) was born in Normandy in the year 1769. It was during the year 1799 that Sir Brunel went to England in order to build the new naval docks at Chatham and Woolwich Arsenal. Later on he also designed the tunnel under the Thames from Wapping to Rotherhithe. This was accomplished in the year 1843.
As for his son, his name was Isambard Kingdom Brunel whose claim to fame were his suspension bridges, steamships and railway lines. Isambard got his education in Paris and got his initial and later on complete training from his father's office from a very early age. While he was only 19 years old, he was in charge of the building of the Thames tunnel. Isambard was also the first one to construct giant steamships.
